Iceland : Skógafoss / Skógarfoss waterfall situated on the Skógá River. Skógafoss is 25m wide and 60m high. The waterfall serves as a background in an episode of the 8th season of Game of Thrones.
The Skógafoss is one of the biggest and most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland. According to legend, the first Viking settler in the area, Þrasi Þórólfsson, buried a treasure in a cave behind the waterfall. Skógafoss can be viewed from the top as a staircase leads to an observational platform above the cascade. Many nesting seabirds can be found on the route up. Skógafoss is located near the small village of Skógar, south of the Eyjafjallajökull glacier volcano. At the eastern side of Skógafoss is a famous 22 kilometre (14 miles) trail which meanfders along Skógá river, between Mýrdalsjökull and Eyjafjallajökull glaciers, before ending in the beautiful Þórsmörk valley.
Iceland is a volcanically and geologically active island in the North Atlantic Ocean, just outside the Arctic Circle. Many fjords punctuate Iceland's coastline while the island's interior, the Highlands of Iceland, is a cold and uninhabitable combination of sand, mountains, glaciers and lava fields.
