Description
Thailand - long tail boats anchored at Maya Bay on Koh Phi Phi Le island.
At Maya Bay, steep limestone cliffs surround the shallow bay, giving the illusion of an almost closed lagoon. Between 1999 and 2000, Maya Bay served as a backdrop for "The Beach“, motion picture starring Leonardo Di Caprio, which considerably increased the number of tourists on that very small secluded beach before the Thai authorities eventually decide to ban access so that nature could regenerate.
The long-tail boat is a type of watercraft native to Southeast Asia, designed to carry passengers, which uses a second-hand car or truck engine as a readily available and maintainable powerplant. Long-tail boats are often used to transport tourists. There are also competitions involving long-tail boats in some provinces of Thailand.
