Description
Plateau d'Emparis and la Meije north face in Oisans mountain range (Alps, France) in October.
The Emparis plateau, with some fabulous landscapes and La Meije serving as a backdrop, all at an altitude of around 2000m, has been designated a Natura 2000 site and can be reached via the GR54 hiking trail. This steppe landscape was formed not only by geographical and geological events, but also by human activity, including pastoralism. Indeed, farmers still move their animals up to the high-altitude pasture in the summer, adding to the charm of the natural environment. The Emparis plateau can be reached from Le Chazelet, Mizoën or Besse-en-Oisans.
La Meije is a mountain (3.983 m) in the Massif des Écrins range, located at the border of the Hautes-Alpes and Isère départements. It overlooks the nearby village of La Grave, a mountaineering centre and ski resort, well known for its off-piste and extreme skiing possibilities, and also dominates the view west of the Col du Lautaret. It is the second highest mountain of the Écrins after the Barre des Écrins.
